Just some punctuation spacing errors:
I did not know; otherwise I would have gone.

It is also possible to use a comma instead of a semi-colon (to denote a shorter pause).

I think that some people (such as I) would feel more comfortable with a comma after “otherwise”:

I did not know; otherwise, I would have gone.

I don’t see any need for a comma there. ‘Otherwise I would have gone’ makes a lot more sense as a single phrase with no comma.
