I decided to find a hotel to spend the night V I decided to find a hotel where to

Hi,

When I eventually arrived in Messina, the last ferry had left so I decided to find a hotel to spend the night.

Is it fine to say"… I decided to find a hotel where to spend the night" as well?

Thanks in advance. Bye

Hi Francis

I don’t know whether it is possible. For me It’s weird, generally if you say “find a hotel”, most of the time people understand that where you are going to stay few nights. So It’s not necessary to add “where” and make the sentence longer.

Waiyin is correct, the “where” should not be included - though you could say “I decided to find a hotel where I could spend the night.”

Hi Waiyin and Luschen, thanks for your help.
