I just want to know how difficult this is and how long we will have to wait before we can set up home together and start saving for a family? Also will he be able to work in the uk whilst waiting for citizenship and how long does this take, any serious help much appreciated, Thanks
I don’t have an answer to your questions, Jamie, but I wish you luck.
There’s some information here.
If you get married, I think a Malaysian national would first need to apply for “further leave to remain”; then after 2 years, for “indefinite leave to remain”, which includes entitlement to benefits, permission to work, etc.; and after 3 years, for British citizenship.
But this is only a very dim memory of the procedure, and I may be quite wrong.

I think the complexity of the situation differs a lot on whether or not your future wife is a Malay/Muslim. If she is a Malay and you guys plan to marry in Malaysia, the law of Malaysia requires you to convert to Islam. If she is, I’m sure by this time, you’ve already known this.
Here’s a little about marriage registration in Malaysia.
