how to correct these sentences

Hello

These are some sentences to be corrected

1-

Factories which throw waste into the sea should be punished severely

2- Oil is piped to sea ports

3-we spelled the boards down the middle to use them for the back of the shelves

I think the third will be “split” instead of “spelt” but what does it mean in the whole ?

??

  1. The owners of factories which throw waste into the sea should be punished severely.

  2. Oil is piped to sea ports. (This seems to be a fragment of a longer sentence).

  3. We split the boards down the middle to use them for the back of the shelves.
(The boards were halved so that they were the right size to provide a back piece for the shelving unit.)

  1. Oil is piped to sea ports. (This seems to be a fragment of a longer sentence).

No It isn’t … It is as it is in the book

I had to answers , the first is “into” instead of to

and the second is “from” instead of to

but I think it is not wrong at all

An other one

I don’t refuse lending him a sum of money for he is honest.

I changed"lending" into “to lend”

I think" for" is acceptable in this position isn’t it ?
