Is there a word to describe one is holding back tears?

I don’t know any particular word for holding back tears. The only alternatives I can think of are - suppress your tears -refrain from crying.

Would it be okay to say restrain (one’s) tears in place of suppress (one’s) tears or hold back (one’s) tears?

‘Hold back’ would do just fine.
