What is the difference in meaning between these two sentences:

  1. I hope you guys will help me.
  2. I hope you guys will help me out.

‘Out’ is a kind of a… mmm, what shall I call it? An ameliorator? It adds a touch of easiness/friendliness to the request, as if it might not be such a chore to give help.
