Hello from Poland, I hope to become a translator...

Hello!

I have been studying English for some 10 years now and probably I will have to brush it up for the next 10 years.
I treat it as a hobby and derive great pleasure from learning new words

In the future I hope to become a translator or an interpreter. I am eager to get to know other (would-be) translators/interpreters.

I know a smattering of German too, so German-speaking people are all welcome to send me a message if they want to.

If I make a mistake and someone notices it, I will take no offence at being told about them.

Twin

Hello Twin!
Nice to have you here, keep posting with us!

Hi Twin

Glad to see you here!
I am not a linguist, but I like people who are really passionate about language(s) (not just passing tests).
Who keep them alive, fine and healthy, day by day.

I am Russian, now residing in the UK. My English is faaaar from perfect, but I do my best to help it (him  ) to get better. Growing up.

My level is obviously lower than yours, but I can (and will) try :). And would be very grateful if you do the same, in any context.

Hi Twin!
It’s really good that you joined us. You can learn a lot in here
I think. I want to become a translator as well although now I’m rather weak in it. But I’m stiill trying to improve it.
I hope to meet you on the site again.

Nice to meet you too. The job of a translator is a tough one, but it can be rewarding as well. it will take years before I am at the peak of my abilities. Still I want to a translator, a good one in fact.

I hope you will grow fond of this job.

Hi,Twin:
I admire you that you want to be a translator!!!so is it sort of simultaneous translation or simultaneous interpretation ?did you get practical experiences ?Yeah,to be a good translator is very hard ,i think.Anyway,May you successful!

Hi, Twin!
Yes, being an interpreter( I mean not a translator  ) is very difficult and responsible job. You must work hard to achieve success. It may takes years of hard learning. In the future I want to become an interpreter. What I do for achieving my goal? Well, I read a great many of books dealing with the way of translation, make written translations in order to exercise my skills. But what do you do?

Hi FangFang!

I dream of becoming an interpreter one day, but it more than difficult. The job of an simultaneous interpreter is even more difficult and few people can do it well. I do not think that I will become a simultaneous interpreter as I simply lack some skills. I hope that I have enough skills to become a consecutive interpreter.

By the way, the expressions simultaneous translator and simultaneous interpreter refer to the same person, but the former is considered incorrect. Interpreting is the transferring of ideas expressed orally, while translation is the transferring of ideas expressed in writing.

I have some experience as an interpreter. I interpret some business talks twice a year, which is not much, but I am only a beginner without a diploma. Probably I will interpret more after graduating from my department:-)

Thank you very much for your warm welcome.

Hi Pamela!

I am glad that you want to become an interpreter too. It puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day:-) What do I do? First and foremost, I attend translation and interpreting classes at my university. I will have 3 90-minute long classes in translation (Polish-English) and two 90-minute long classes in interpreting (Polish-English) as of October. Now I am on holidays:-) I also do some interpreting throughout the year. Usually I interpret twice a year busiess talks.

By the way, do you think translation is easy? I don’t. I would say that it is one of the most intricate jobs in the world. Maybe we could have a discussion on this, what do you think?

Hi, Twin!

I don’t think that translation is easy. My opinion is the following: It depends on how experienced you are. If you have a long practice I think translation is the easiest thing in this case, if not, vice versa  That’s why if you want to become one of the best interpreters or translators you must have everyday practice.

That’s really great! I wish you great luck!

I’m always glad and ready to discuss such kinds of topics

Hello,Twin:
I dare not attend our national oral interpretation
test , It is too hard for me! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: Generally i 'd like to do some written translating practices, which is better!mmm,i wonder if you posted your translating works to publishing houses or some kind of magazines ?It isn’t easy at the beginning ,but good and helpful ,specially when you attend some contest which is held for this purpose you will benefit much!

As for my experience in translating from English into polish, I have translated subtitles for 2 films that were shown during a film festival. It was a small festival, but still that’s practice, isn’t it?

My focus now is on gaining new translation skills and developing old ones. I know that practice enriches my knowledge, but I also believe that I should not neglect my education. I am still a student:-)

Hi everybody!!!

hello.
