He thought I am sick OR He thought I was sick?

Which is correct?

  1. He thought I am sick.
  2. He thought I was sick.

I’d go for the second one.

Please correct me if I am wrong –

There could be two uses:

  1. Talking about the past:
“He thought I was sick.” – seems appropriate here as we are talking about the past.

  2. In conversation:
“He thought I am sick.” – is it correct when used in conversation?

In most conversations everything is allowed, I believe. ^^ But don’t count too much on my opinion; I’m just a student, just like you.

Evening guys … the second is the only correct answer.

" He thought I was sick."

He couldn’t thought I am sick.

The first is past (thought) and the second ( I am) is present.
