Can anyone please tell me why ‘happy end’ was used instead of ‘happy ending’ in the following snippet from the Netflix Series ‘You’?
*Now, in his castle, you understand Prince Charming * and Bluebeard are the same man.
And you don’t get a happy end unless you love both of him.
I assume this is an attempt to be ‘smart’ because this only makes sense if it is a condensed version of ‘a happy end to the story’.
To me, if it is end, that verb will be treated as intransitive; if it is ending, it will sound as though it is transitive). The choice lies with the author.
