Grammar/ People and Peoples. Uncountable or countable noun?

Hi all of you,

Is it correct to say: ‘Many people died in the plane crash last week.’ ?

Is it also correct to say: ‘Peoples of the world.’

Well, I’m going to make a guess: the 1st sentence is correct and 2nd one too. However, in sentence 2 you actually refer to nations? Am I correct or not, please help me out.

Thanks
Alexandro.

“The second one too.”

That’s pretty much like that, Alexandro, but it’s not the same as nations if you refer to them as countries, but as a collective noun for person. If you use PEOPLE in the plural form, it means almost the same as TRIBE.

Some other synonyms are: RACE, ETHNIC GROUP and CLAN.
