Good offices

Some definition give “good offices” as beneficial acts given by others, others say it’s an influence used over something.

My question: can it be used to describe any form of charity?

Many thanks,

P/S: I am still not sure how to use this expression. I’d be very thankful if anyone can give me examples as variant as possible.

I’m sorry to say I have never encountered this phrase used with this meaning before. I saw it in the Free Dictionary, but perhaps its usage is BrE.

Owh, how come? :frowning:

I hope to hear from British people soon. Thanks again, Barb_D.

I am familiar with “good deeds” and also “good works” (which sounds somewhat old fashioned to me). Just not this one. offers:

But I also think it can be used the way you put it. I am just not sure.
