Hi
I would like to discuss this idiom I just read in Alan’s story.
Keep one’s fingers crossed: My dictionary defines it as: to remain hopeful.
Could you please shed some more light on it?

Hi Tom,
It’s a sort of superstition that if you keep your fingers crossed then you will not fail or come to harm. People say: I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you when they want you to succeed in say taking an exam, applying for a job or taking your driving test.
