Expectance vs expectation

I think it’s “expectation” but my teacher said it was “expectance”

Is it correct?

I’m not sure why you posted this question in two different forums, but here are my comments again:

I would use the word ‘expectancy’.
‘Life expectancy’ is a common collocation and refers to the number of years that people can generally expect to live.

You might possibly find the word ‘expectance’ in a dictionary, but I’ve never heard anyone use it.

By the way, there are some other aspects of your sentence that could be improved. You should change ‘of’ to ‘in’ and omit ‘the’ at the end:

Life expectancy in the USA has been increasing in recent years.

In my opinion, the use of “expectance” should be considered wrong. The fixed expression is “life expectancy”.
