It’s because a display is not always an advertisement. An advertisement is supposed to sell things or to get people to react in some way. So you advertise products if you want people to buy them. You advertise a show if you want people to come see it. You advertise blood donation services, and maybe a blood shortage, if you want people to come donate blood.
A display is just showing something. Maybe a museum will have a display of antique dolls at Christmas time, just for people to see and enjoy. In my state capitol, there is a display of paintings of the former governors.
Sometimes a display is part of an advertisement and sometimes not. At a trade show, or on the floor of the department store, you have displays that are also actually advertisements. However, at a museum they are not advertisements.
Sometimes the advertisement comes first, and the display comes second. When a Mexican kid tells a tourist on the beach that he’ll “mover la panza” for a dollar, that offer is the advertisement. After he gets the dollar, the tricks he does with his stomach are the display.
