During the outing children will have the opportunity to visit several places which they have learned about during the lessons.

Of course if you change to ‘will have’, you are suggesting that this practice hasn’t started yet. Whereas ‘have’ indicates that this is common practice.

This is opinion, but I would add a comma after ‘outing’. When spoken there would probably be a long pause after ‘outing’.

“several places which they have learned about”

Either omit the word ‘which’ entirely, or replace it with ‘that’.

"several places they have learned about"
or
“several places that they have learned about”

A longer sentence is OK, but if you want a simplified and shorter sentence, try this.

During the outing, children will have the opportunity to visit several places they have learned about.

Would ‘field trip’ be more appropriate here than ‘outing’ since it’s clearly about learning something new and not just having fun?

Yea it would probably be better. Or at least it would more commonly be called a field trip in the States.
