Doubt

  1. Try this new garlic dip.
What is the meaning for ‘garlic dip’?
    Is it ‘garlic sauce’?
    2a. Heat the soup.
    2b. Heat the soup up.
    Are both sentences OK?
    Do they mean the same?
  1. “garlic dip” is like a thick garlic-flavoured sauce, but rather than pouring it over food (as you would a sauce), you put it in a bowl, and dip other pieces of food in it.

  2. “heat the soup”, “heat up the soup” and “heat the soup up” are all possible and mean the same thing. In writing I prefer either of the first two.
