Nowadays, using mass transportation is becoming increasingly prevalent. For many people, especially students and low-income commuters, buses, rails, or subways can be a good choice for their daily routine. However, other people still prefer private cars rather than public transportation for many reasons. In this essay, I will look at both sides and try to draw some conclusions.

Let’s begin by looking at the advantages of public transportation. One of its main positives is that it saves a great deal of money for passengers. To afford an expected car, many people must accumulate their income over a long period of time. Moreover, car owners must incur multiple additional expenses covering compulsory insurance fees and periodic maintenance. Meanwhile, passengers going by bus or train just pay less money for ticket prices, so that they can save their money for other consumption. Students even have priority to get discounted tickets due to government subsidies. Using public transportation may be a better option, especially in the case of escalating prices like today.

Secondly, the public means of transportation can be considered as a solution to resolve environmental problems currently. According to the statista company, the global transportation sector is a major polluter, producing approximately 7.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide emission in 2020. Creating the habit of travelling by public transportation for local residents, therefore, could alleviate the problem. Recent evidence shows that working from home in the social distance period caused by Covid-19 pandemic improved air pollution indicators. In addition, governments in many countries are motivating to transfer old public transportation to the new generations using electricity or friendly-environment fuel to improve air quality.

Turning to the other side of the argument, less flexibility in time and place of departure and destination is a major problem. Public transportation usually has a scheduled routine with working time normally limited to 8PM, so passengers must wait a long time to catch a bus or train, and it is inconvenient for many people participating in late parties or nightly entertainment. While a private car can drive you straight to the venue you want, public transportation just drops you at bus stops or train stations. It could be time-consuming and exhausting to walk from subway’s stations to the workplace, especially in the condition of bad weather.

Another issue is that public transportation can get really crowded in rush hours. Sitting closely with many people on the buses can increase the risk of infection. It might be stressful to witness jostling scenes on subways after a long-hour working day. Instead of that, people can sit back comfortably in front of the steering wheel, adjust the air-conditioning or heater to desirable temperature, and listen to their favorite songs on the way home.

In conclusion, there are clearly both positives and negatives to commuting by public transportation everyday. Until now, a large proportion of city dwellers have not formed the habit of using public vehicles mainly for their inconveniences. Personally, I believe that public transportation would be a future resolution to environmental issues as our society has been gradually developed.

Nowadays, using mass transit is becoming more and more popular. For many people, especially students and low-income commuters, buses, trains or subways can be a good choice for their daily life. However, other people still prefer their own cars over public transportation for various reasons. In this essay, I will look at both sides and try to draw some conclusions.

Let’s first look at the advantages of public transportation. One of the main advantages is that it saves passengers a lot of money. In order to afford a car, many people have to accumulate their income over a long period of time. Moreover, car owners have to pay a lot of additional costs for mandatory insurance fees and regular maintenance. Bus and train passengers, on the other hand, pay less money for tickets, allowing them to save their money for other expenses. Students even have priority in purchasing discounted tickets due to government subsidies. Using public transportation can be a better option, especially when prices escalate as they are today.

Second, public transportation can be seen as a solution to current environmental problems. According to the statista company, the global transportation sector is a major polluter, causing about 7.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions in 2020. Getting residents used to traveling by public transport could therefore alleviate the problem. Recent evidence shows that air pollution indicators improve when people work from home during the social distance caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. In addition, governments in many countries are motivating new generations to switch to public transportation powered by electricity or environmentally friendly fuels to improve air quality.

On the other hand, less flexibility in terms of time and place of departure and destination is a major problem. Public transportation usually has a fixed schedule that usually lasts until 8 p.m., so passengers have to wait a long time for a bus or train, which is inconvenient for many people attending late-night parties or late-night entertainment events. While a private car can take you directly to your desired venue, public transportation will only drop you off at bus stops or train stations. It can be time-consuming and exhausting to walk from subway stations to your workplace, especially in bad weather.

Another problem is that public transportation can be very crowded during rush hour. Sitting closely with many people on buses can increase the risk of infection. After a long day at work, crowding on the subways can be stressful. Instead, you can sit back comfortably in front of the steering wheel, set the air conditioning or heating to your desired temperature, and listen to your favorite songs on the way home.

To sum up, daily commuting by public transport has both positive and negative aspects. So far, a large part of city dwellers have not gotten used to using public transportation, mainly because of its inconvenience. I personally believe that public transportation is a future solution to environmental problems as our society has gradually evolved.
