A notion is a loose concept or idea that has been created by somebody else other than you. A viewpoint is an opinion or understanding of something you have arrived at yourself by thinking about it. Let me know if this helps you solve the exercise yourself. By the way, please don’t use punctuation marks excessively (I’ve removed the additional question and exclamation marks you had posted.)

In this context, many people is other person giving/believing opinion, so notion is preferred, I could understand from Sir Torston explanation.
