Difference between argue for and argue about

Hello everyone,

Can someone tell me the difference between “argue for” and “argue about”. Please, care to illustrate.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Basmamostafa,

‘Argue for’ has the sense of supporting with your arguments as in: The opposition party in the senate are arguing for a reduction in the age at which you can vote.

‘Argue about’ means having a discussion/quarrel about a particular topic/point of view as in: The Government and the Opposition are always arguing about whether income tax should be reduced or increased.
