Diagramming a sentence

“He left town a pauper. He came home a millionaire.”

Does anyone have an idea about how to diagram the first sentence?

Thank you very much.

Don’t know about diagramming it, but

He left town (as) a pauper.
(When) he left town (he was) a pauper.

  • He was a pauper when he left town.

Good evening, James. Welcome back! By the way, what do you mean by diagramming, a term Greek to me in this context? (Tree diagram?)

A simple Google search for ‘diagram a sentence’ (especially an image search) would provide many examples.

Here’s a clear explanation:

Thank you, Beeesneees and Anglophile, VERY much for your replies.

Let me make an attempt to visualize a tree diagram here.

A valiant effort but diagramming is not possible on the forum using the message box unless a picture is added.
