Dependent or depedant?

Dictionary says 'dependent and dependant 'are both the same ,just matter of BRITISH AND AMERICAN English;but BJ THOMAS in Advanced Vocabulary&Idioms says:
Depenant=person who depends on another for home, money, food…
What do you think,I would be greatful if you please help me with this!

Hi Lilish

I’d say that the word “dependant” may be more British than American.

I myself only use “dependent” and I don’t use the spelling “dependant” at all.

However, the Cambridge Dictionary seems to suggest that in British English “dependant” would only be a noun.
