day of the week v.s. day of week

I have doubts about whether I should say day of week or day of the week.
For example:
I have to wake up at 6:00 every day of (the?) week except Saturday and Sunday

Thanks a million!

Hi Alex,

Why not remove ‘of the week’ all together? Your sentence could read I have to get up at 6 every day except Saturday and Sunday.[YSaerTTEW443543]

Yea, but if he must use that phrase, then should it be “of the week” or “of week”?
I personally think ‘of the week’ is ok, but I just can’t explain why ‘of week’ is not…

He can say “every weekday” or “over day of the week”.[YSaerTTEW443543]
