Could I change "in which" into "where"?

could I change “in which” into “where”?

Hi floratang,

If you make the change, you also change the meaning. In your sentence in which refers to vacations and suggests during which. In other words tourists explore wilderness areas during their vacation.

If you say: vacation where, you are then referring to the places they take thier vacation in.
