Correct preposition: The gentle breeze blew in/on/onto our faces.

The gentle breeze blew in/on/onto our faces.

Which is the correct preposition?

Many thanks in advance.

My choice would be “in” if the breeze is bothersome and unpleasant, and “into” if it is more pleasant. “On” and “across” would also be completely correct. I think “across” would be more commonly used. You could also use “by”.

Thanks, Jamie (K).
