College, university, institute, faculty, or academy?

Hello,
I wonder what are the differences between the topic of this forum’s words?

Thanks in advance.

Salivan.

This is actually a very good question and will depend quite a lot on where you come from. Naturally one can go to the many dictionaries and look up the word definitions, but in reality, you may find people have many different opinions, not only to dictionaries, but also between themselves. Here is mine:

College : is a place of learning focused to more practical hands-on training, engineering, technical skills …
University : is a place of academic learning; a group of scholars …
Institute : Institute is a school that works as part of, or under contract to a state recognised education establishment …
Faculty : is a group of teachers, often used to describe a specific skill area both directly and indirectly …
Academy : Is an education organization, normally private, holding or not holding state recognition …

As siad, I think that today there are many definitions and the only way to really compare is to set a common concept and then look for the legal defintion under that concept.

Thank you Rob. LOL.
