Choose vs pick out

Hello,

She left her son to choose some toys at the store.
She left her son to pick out some toys at the store.

pick out means choose, but I think it is more specific way to say “choose” here. However, can I still use “choose” here?

I would normally use “pick out some toys”, referring a little more to specific items, but I don’t think anyone would consider “choose” to be incorrect.
