Can the comma after "2016" be removed?

Robbie died at the age of 23 on 29 November 2016, after what is believed to have been an accidental overdose

Can the comma after “2016” be removed?

Thanks.

Yes, it should be removed.

Thanks, Anglophile.

It’s amazing how many conventions there are regarding the use of commas with dates. There are so many that it approaches absurdity.

Robbie died at the age of 23 on 29 November 2016 after what is believed…
No comma when using British date format (day month year)

Robbie died at the age of 23 on November 29, 2016, after what is believed…
Two commas when using American Date format (month day year)

Even though month-day-year is called American format, both formats are common in the US.

When introducing a sentence, use a comma after the date when using either format.

On 29 November 2016, after what is believed to be…
On November 29, 2016, after what is believed to be…

Use a comma after the day of the week.

Robbie died at the age of 23 on Wednesday, 29 November 2016
