Can "In his late 40s" replace "Aged in his late 40s"?

These mixed signals can make it confusing for drivers, said another driver Lennard, who has been driving with Grab for three years. Aged in his late 40s, he declined to give his full name.

Can “In his late 40s” replace “Aged in his late 40s” ?

Thanks.

I was a little confused with this. I’d suggest:
“Lennard, in his late 40s, declined to give his full name.”
