Basic building blocks vs. foundamentals || every-day vs. daily

Today, words of Latin origin form the vocabulary of science, philosophy and government, but the five thousand words of Old English that remain form the basic building blocks of every-day language.

Can I say “… but the five thousand words of old English that remain form the foundamentals of daily language” as well?

Many thanks in advance. Greetings.

They have the same basic meaning. So yes you can say that.
