Technology has developed a lot in the last decades and since the advent of artificial intelligence in our world, information technology has become one of the widely used technologies. Expert systems such as the medical expert systems used for diagnosing patients, use information technology to gain and use human expertise. Obviously, this can be very beneficial to organizations. Therefore, I believe that we should invest more in research on expert systems.

First of all, some people advocate that expert systems are lack of creative responses that human experts capable of. They can’t decide emotionally or while making a tough decision which is out of the realism. However, expert systems have usually storaged large amounts of information whereas a human brain can’t capable of to keep that much information. For example, with today’s technology, expert systems can save billion pages of information whereas we can’t even recall some information which we had already learned.

Secondly, it is still claimed that expert systems aren’t able to recognize when there is no answer. They may easily go into a loop owing to some deficiencies in the system. However, I believed that with modern technological advances, the programmers don’t have a chance to make mistakes. In the expert systems, the probability of an error is quite rare, but human errors are more likely to happen; consequently, we can say that these systems are decreasing the number of human errors.

Finally, the opponents of the expert systems also assert that these systems have no flexibility or ability to adapt to changing environment. When these systems are programmed for only one situation, they may only give solutions to problems which are exist in that situation. However, artificial intelligence has been aimed one purpose which is the fact that computers or any kind of information systems can solve problems on their owns in any kind of situation or environment. As a result, these systems controlled by artificial intelligence will be the most widely used and effective tools for solving problems and finding cures in almost every area such as medical science, education or business life.

Taking everything into account, we can say that if the professionals of the information technology change and control the environmental variables, the expert systems will be able to handle all problems easily in the next decades.
