Hi,

Both expressions refer to a big amount/quantity of money but they are usually used in different ways. ‘A lot of money’ can be used with both positive and negative constructions but ‘much money’ is usually used with negative sentences:

She has a lot of money/ She doesn’t have a lot of money.

She doesn’t have much money.
