Are there errors in the sentence?

We, as members of our temple, should make great effort to fulfil our mission, as received from our High Priest .

Are there any errors in the sentence, especially in regard to the bold part? I think it should be ‘the mission given to us by our High Priest’ instead?

Thanks.

I think either version is grammatically correct. The original sentence focuses more on the members, who receive the mission and then fulfill it - the High Priest is somewhat secondary in this version. Your edit puts a little more focus on the High Priest - it is a two step process with the High Priest doing the giving and the members taking care of the fulfillment.

I would suggest - make a great effort’ - ‘as it is handed down to us by our High Priest’.

“We, as members of our temple, should make great efforts to fulfil our mission, as it is handed down to us from our High Priest”.

The clause as it is handed down to us by our High Priest suggested by Alan sounds really good and apt.

Thanks, Alan and Anglophile.

Should it be “a great effort” or “great efforts”?
