Are 'dosage' and 'dose' used correctly?

Jenny demanded that the oncologist reduce the dosage and told him that her cancer might not kill her but the chemotherapy would. The oncologist reluctantly reduced the dose of medicine to three-and-a-half hours instead of 5 for the fifth and sixth chemotherapy sessions.

  1. Is ‘her cancer’ correct?
  2. Are ‘dosage’ and ‘dose’ used correctly?
  3. Should 5 be spelt out?

Thanks.

Hi,

‘Her cancer’ is correct… ‘Dosage’ is a general title for describing the process of prescribing a medication. ‘Dose’ refers to the precise amount of medication. Using the number ‘5’ is quite all right.

Usually, numbers from one to nine are written in words, so they are to be spelled out.

Not disagreeing Lawrence, but in that particular sentence the use of ‘5’ makes the contrast with ‘three and a half’.

Yes, I’d say I tend to agree with you, Alan.

Thanks, Alan.

Should “dosage” be changed to “dose”?

reduced the dose of medicine, As Sir, Alan said “Dose” means ‘Dose’ refers to the precise amount of medication.

Dose and Dosage are like Percent and Percentage.
