If anthropologists reveal too much of their culture to the subjects of their scrutiny, they risk the corruption of the sometimes fragile societies they seek to understand, as well as other sequelae that may appear incongruous with their task.

Can anyone please explain the the bold part and the meaning of the sentence?

I found this only line in the manhattan 5 lb. text completion book and failed to understand what the bold part actually mean here. What culture it is talking about i cant understand.
