Another doubt: when to use 'I've got' and 'I got'?

when to use ‘I’ve got’ and ‘I got’?

Hello Jinkazamaa,

In BrE, “I have got” refers to the present state, or an action in the recent past; “I got”, to the past. Thus:

  1. I’ve got a headache ] refers to a present headache (a state)
  2. I’ve got the shopping ] refers to a recent shopping trip.
  3. I got the shopping ] refers to a shopping trip in the past.

Best wishes,

MrP
