American vs British punctuation

  1. He sat down, closed his eyes and said “Hello,” Daniel.

  2. He sat down, closed his eyes and said “Hello”, Daniel.

Is #1 the American way of punctuation and #2 the British way?

Thanks.

Well, they are both incorrect on either side of the pond, since the whole quote, “Hello, Daniel”, should be inside quotation marks / inverted commas.

Also, the space after ‘hello’ is redundant.
