Aloud vs out loud.

Good morning everyone.

While reading some article on the internet I found the following expression: “The crowd at the plaza was singing out loud” with a footnote stating that using “out loud” was incorrect and that “aloud” should be used instead, after checking my English-Spanish (Larousse) dictionary, it would completely make sense for me to use either “out loud” or “aloud”.

Anyone that could comment on this topic it will be definitely helpful.

Out loud, I suppose, is more informal than aloud, but neither really makes sense here. The opposite of aloud /out loud is silently, and few if any crowds sing silently together. I suggest that the correct adverb is loudly: The crowd at the plaza was singing loudly.
