After 9 I set my phone on silent...

Hi teachers,

After 9, I set my phone on silent so I couldn’t hear the ring/tone when you phoned me. Please correct it.

Many thanks.

I would say ‘set my phone to silent’ or ‘put my phone on silent’.

Thank you, BN.
Both “ring or tone” can be used?

‘Ring’ for a ringing sound, ‘tone’ for anything else, so both can be used, especially as the person you are speaking to [probably wouldn’t know which you had on your phone.

Beeesneees,
Can I say as below?:

  1. Set fire to the waste.
  2. Put fire to the waste.
    Thanks.

‘set’ not ‘put’.
