According to Assoc Prof Lim, the nomination was seconded by the party’s secretary-general, Pritam Singh.

I’m confused by the comma after “general”. Should there be a comma after “general”. the comma is needed, what is the reason?

I think the given sentence is correct and acceptable. (According to Assoc. Prof. Lim, the nomination was seconded by the Party’s secretary-general, Pritam Singh.)
However, you may also consider either of the following.

  • According to Assoc. Prof. Lim, the nomination was seconded by Secretary-General Pritam Singh of the party.
  • According to Assoc. Prof. Lim, the nomination was seconded by Mr Pritam Singh, the Party’s secretary-general.
(I have capitalized some words and punctuated in some places)
